What is a CIC?
A CIC (Community Interest Company) is a legal structure in the UK designed for social enterprises. It lets you trade like a business but legally lock in your mission for community benefit. Funders often prefer CICs because they’re transparent and mission-led.
Do I need to be registered to get funding?
Not always — but being registered as a CIC, charity, or co-op massively increases your chances. Some grants will fund informal groups, but most want structure, a bank account, and a track record of community impact.
What if I’m just starting and don’t have a community yet?
